KARACHI, Dec 23: Sindh Planning and Development Minister Syed Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari on Thursday inaugurated an extension scheme at the Government Girls' College, Ferer Road, Shahrah-i-Liaquat.
Under the scheme, nine classrooms, three laboratories, a lecture hall and a library will be built in the college at a cost of Rs40 million over a total 5,4000 square-feet area.
MPA Syed Shakir Ali, District Officer (Education) Zakir Ali and Deputy City Officer Hasan Askari were also present. Mr Bukhari, on the occasion, said about 2,200 girls were studying at the college, and after the extension it would accommodate 4,500 students.
The project would benefit the girl students living in nearby areas, who had to cover long distances to attend far off colleges, by catering to their educational needs, he added.
The minister advised the students to work hard to achieve their educational goals, saying that as compared to boys, girls paid more attention towards their studies as reflected from the results of the last many years.
He pointed out that for development of a nation, girls' education was very important, as an educated mother could effectively play her role in upbringing of the new generation. -APP
