LARKANA: Shutter-down strike in Kambar

LARKANA, Dec 23: A complete strike was observed in Kambar on Thursday and thousands of people took to the streets in protest against the Sindh government decision to make Shahdadkot a district, instead of Kambar.

The demonstrators burnt tyres and effigies of the Sindh chief minister and the revenue minister. A heavy contingent of police had been deployed in the area. The protesters blocked all roads, except the Larkana-Kambar road. They also erected barricades on different entry points to Kambar.

The protesters were baton-charged near the Bakery Road when they resisted policemen who were removing the barricades. Five people, Gaibidero Union Council Naib Nazim Mukhtiar Chandio, Imtiaz Chandio, Imtiaz Solangi, Hafeez Chandio and Altaf Chandio, attempted self-immolation outside the local press club. They were admitted to the Kambar Taluka Hospital from where Mukhtiar and Imtiaz were taken to the Chandka Medical College Hospital in Larkana.
