Five killed, 12 injured in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 22: Three Mujahideen and two civilians were killed and 12 others injured in fresh clashes and a grenade attack in occupied Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.

The three rebels were shot dead in the southern districts of Udhampur and Pulwama by Indian troops overnight and Wednesday, a police spokesman said.

"All the three were killed by the troops during two search operations launched on specific information," he said, adding two Indian troopers were also wounded in one of the encounters. Separately, a civilian died when he was caught in the crossfire during a clash between Mujahideen and Indian troops at the main bus terminal in Srinagar, police said.

Also nine civilians and two federal policemen were injured on Wednesday evening when freedom fighters hurled a hand grenade at a police patrol near Sangam, 35 kilometers south of Srinagar, police said. One of the injured civilians later died on way to a Srinagar hospital, a police spokesman said. -AFP
