HARIPUR: 2 bridegrooms arrested, released

HARIPUR, Dec 22: Two bridegrooms landed in police lockup here on Monday evening when their jubilant relatives fired shots in the air.

Khalabat Township police said they had arrested Mohammad Tariq of Khalabat and Abdul Wahab of village Qazian on the charges of aerial firing.

According to eyewitnesses, the friends of the bridegrooms were celebrating marriage ceremonies by resorting to aerial firing when the police raided both the houses and arrested the bridegrooms instead. However, the bridegrooms were later released on personal surety by the area notables.

BAR ELECTION: Annual elections for the district bar association, Haripur, were held here on Wednesday. Voting was held for the posts of general secretary, vice-president and joint secretary, while for president Mehboob Ahmad advocate had already been declared successful after his opponent Waheed Azhar advocate retired in his favour.
