LAHORE, Dec 21: Two rakes of passenger coaches will be handed to the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) in the second week of January next, it is learnt. Officials said here on Tuesday that some 21 passenger coaches would be prepared at the Mughalpura Carriage Shops here for the KCR.

The design of the coaches was approved by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on the recommendations of a task force he had constituted for the restoration of the KCR. Headed by the Minister of State Ishaq Khaqwani, the task force comprises Sindh Chief Minister Dr Ghulam Arbab Rahim, Sindh minister for transport and Karachi City District Nazim.

The task force recommendations included provision of new passenger coaches to the KCR. The design of these coaches was prepared at the PR headquarters here. Meanwhile, GM Operations Abdul Wahab Awan inspected the under-construction coaches at the Mughalpura Carriage Shops on Tuesday, and expressed satisfaction over the pace of work. Mr Awan directed that the coaches be constructed according to the specifications and ensure their timely delivery to the KCR.
