KARACHI, Dec 18: The University of Karachi on Saturday notified lists of 3,861 applicants selected for admission to honours programmes in science, arts, commerce and Islamic studies at over 36 departments of the university.

According to Dr M Ishaq, director of the KU Admission Committee, about 9,000 candidates had applied for admissions against 2,761 available seats. Extra admissions were granted to almost all departments.

"However, we have increased the number of students selected on merit by 10 to 15 per cent at every department in view of the fact that some students drop out at some later stage," he stated.

According to him, the programmes of Pharmacy, Microbiology, Food Science, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Mass Communication, Economics and International Relations drew the largest number of applications.

Selected students would be required to submit fees from December 20 to 23, Mr Ishaq said. While, applicants unsatisfied with the merit list or their placements can submit claim forms, available for Rs200 each at the varsity's Silver Jubilee Gate, from December 20 to 23, he continued.
