QUETTA, Dec 18: The Anti-Terrorism Court Quetta has convicted 17 accused for life imprisonment and fine for killing six persons in the Chamalang incident. Six others, including an ex-minister, have, however been acquitted.
The judge of the court, Shaukat Rakshani, convicted on Saturday Liaquat Marri, Mir Baz, Wadera Karim Bakhsh, Ali Ahmed, Metha Khan and 12 absconders for life imprisonment and a fine of Rs100,000 each.
The convicts would have to serve additional one year of imprisonment if they failed to pay the fine.
According to the prosecution, the accused had killed Nasrullah Luni, Najmuddin, Sakhidad, Mehrab Khan, Sher Mohammad and Sultan Mohammad and injured Durrani Khan and Baloch Khan, besides kidnapping Rehmatullah and Qalandar Khan, on June 29, 2002, in Chamalang area of Loralai district.
The victims' families had nominated 23 persons of the rival tribe in the case and the law enforcement agencies arrested 11 of them.
Those acquitted include Mir Mohbat Marri, Wadera Yaqoob Marri, Nasibullah, Balakh Sher, Wadera Katal and Riaz Mohammad.
