NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Dec 18: The RPO of Sukkur called on injured police constable Manzoor Chohan in the Civil Hospital Nawabshah on Friday and announced Rs5,000 cash and one step promotion for him as a reward for his bravery during the Naushahro Feroze incident.

This was said by DPO, Naushahro Feroze, Sikandar Ali Magsi, while briefing journalists on the latest developments in the prisoners' escape case.

He said that four of 10 escaped prisoners - Waheed Khoso, Mehrab Jatoi, Rashid and Jumo alias Mujjan - had been arrested.

Answering a question, the DPO said that it was being investigated whether accused constable Khuda Bux Rind shot at and killed prisoner Saro Rind to take revenge or he was involved in a plan to provide an opportunity to four prisoners from the NWFP namely Tahir Awan, Ismail Awan, Mohammad Saeed Awan and Ameen to flee.

Answering another question, the DPO said that 31 police officials had been recommended for promotion for killing four bandits near Kandiaro about two months ago but the recommendations had not yet been approved by the government.

Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi has sought a report from the RPO, Sukkur, and the DPO, Naushahro Feroze, regarding the incident and ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter, reports APP from Karachi.

He said a departmental inquiry would also be conducted by a three-member team, headed by the DIG, Sindh Reserve Police, Ghulam Qadir Mahar, and with SSP Sain Rakhio Mirani and SP Mohammed Iqbal Dara as members.

The home minister said a fool proof system should be devised for security of prisoners while they were produced in courts.
