Shoaib Akhtar fined for taunting

PERTH, Dec 17: Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was fined US$2,900 for breaching code of conduct on day one of first cricket Test against Australia.

Shoaib, who pointed Matthew Hayden back to the pavilion after dismissing him, was deducted 40% of his match fee by match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

He pulled up injured just before stumps on Friday but said ankle taping had ripped skin off but expects to bowl on Saturday. Shoaib was charged by umpires Billy Bowden, Rudi Koertzen and third official Steve David of breaching section 1.6 of the ICC code.

The section reads: "Pointing or gesturing towards the pavilion in an aggressive manner by a bowler or other member of the fielding side upon the dismissal of a batsman." -Agencies
