LANDI KOTAL: Protest against power shortage

By Our Correspondent

LANDI KOTAL, Dec 16: The residents of Jamrud took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against load-shedding and water shortage in the area.

The protesters, mostly women and children, blocked the Ghundi Road for several hours to register their anger against what they called unannounced load shedding by Wapda.

They pointed out that the load shedding had also caused water shortage as tube-wells, the source of water in many localities, remained lifeless for want of electricity.

The protesters chanted slogans against Wapda and the political administration, and threatened to block the main Peshawar-Torkham Highway. They further said that they would surround the offices of the political agent if the authorities failed to ensure continuous supply of electricity to the Jamrud tehsil.

KILLED: A woman was killed and her minor son suffered severe injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in Bara tehsil of the Khyber Agency on Wednesday night. The incident occurred in the house of Lal Haider in Nala Kelli. The woman, whose name could not be known, was sister-in-law of Lal Haider.
