KARACHI, Dec 16: After China's announcement to impose export tariffs on certain textiles and apparel to limit the surge in shipments in quota free era
, two opinions have emerged among local exporters with one seeking similar or close to such arrangements to avoid any action from importing countries for containing imports.
However, others feel that since there was no such demand and pressure from the European Union and the United States, and Pakistani textile industry was not as big of a size as of China there was no need to go for levying tariffs to limit textile and apparel exports.
Under strong pressure from the EU and the US, China apparently accepted limiting the surge in shipments of textiles and clothing in 2005. Beijing will levy tariffs on exports, the China's ministry of commerce announced on its web site. However, it did not identify the products precisely and what will be the level of tariff rates.
