MMA's popularity on rise: CM

By Our Correspondent

MINGORA, Dec 15: Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has criticized the opposition parties for launching a negative propaganda against the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), saying his government had launched a record number of development schemes during the past two years.

He said the government was functioning smoothly and the MMA's popularity graph was going up with each passing day. The chief minister expressed these views while addressing different functions here on Wednesday.

The CM cited dozens of schemes in education, health, and communication sectors that he said his government had initiated in the province, adding that the MMA government had resolved to provide justice to the people at their doorstep, and that was why a judicial complex had already been approved for Swat.

He said that the federal government was creating hurdles for the provincial government but the MMA was strong enough to tackle such issues. He said his government had promised to enforce the Islamic system and the assembly had unanimously approved the Shariah bill and fulfilled its prime objective.

He said the womenfolk had been given their due rights. The establishment of Women's University and Women's Medical College were ample proofs of the government's performance.

He claimed that the law and order situation was exemplary in the province, adding that the relatives of police personnel sacrificing their lives were being compensated. He also announced compensation for those who suffered during a bank robbery in Matta last week.

Mr Durrani inaugurated the newly constructed blocks of Saidu Medical College, Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital and Government Postgraduate Jehanzeb College. He was accompanied by lawmakers representing the area.
