KARACHI, Dec 15: A number of MBBS second year students of the Dow Medical College and Sindh Medical College on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration at the Karachi Press Club
against the transfer of their enrolments from the Dow University of Health Sciences to the University of Karachi.
Holding banners and placards, the protesting students chanted slogans against the concerned authorities and demanded that their enrolments be re-transferred to KU. Talking to PPI, students said their enrolments were transferred to the Dow varsity without their consent. "We have appeared in the MBBS first year exams held under KU and want to continue," they said.
The students said the DUHS was a newly established varsity and not yet recognized globally. They feared they would face difficulties in getting admission to any specialization course abroad after the WTO regime was implemented.
They also said that the vice-chancellor of the DUHS had assured the students on Saturday last, during their protest at the DUHS, that they would be given the choice to appear in exams held under KU and the DUHS, but he denied accepting the students' demand on Wednesday.
"When the students of 3rd, 4th and final years have been given the right to appear in exams under KU, why aren't the students of 2nd year being allowed," the students argued. The students demanded of the governor, chief minister and other concerned officials to allow them to appear in exams under KU. - PPI
