KARACHI, Dec 15: Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Rahim has issued orders for quashment of a notification issued by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Sept 21 devolving Malir and Lyari development authorities to the city district government of Karachi.
Notifying this, the Sindh Local Government Commission communicated to the nazim that his orders on devolution of the two authorities stand quashed. The commission, in its letter to the nazim, pointed out that the chief minister in a summary containing recommendations of the commission passed the orders of quashment of the notification issued by the nazim under Section 25 of Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001.
The nazim had devolved the defunct Lyari and Malir development authorities through a notification to the relevant group of offices of city government. The commission took cognizance of the irregularity and issued notice under Section 25 of the SLGO 2001 to the nazim on Nov 2 giving him an opportunity to be heard in person before initiating proceedings under the above section.
According to the commission, the nazim did not avail the opportunity and instead of appearing in person sent a reply in writing video his letter of Nov 18. The matter was considered by the commission in its 24th meeting held on Nov 18 and it was found not sustainable by law, against the public policy and interest of people. The commission further decided to refer the matter to the chief executive of the province for quashment of the nazim's orders. --APP
