KARACHI, Dec 15: Various parts of the city will face acute water shortage on Thursday and Friday owing to a power breakdown that occurred at Dhabeji pumping station on Wednesday, causing a shortfall of 40 million gallons of water.
According to a spokesman for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, pumping of water to the city remained suspended from 1pm to 3pm on Wednesday due to a power failure at Dhabeji pumping station and as a result of which the city has suffered a shortfall of 40mgd of water.
Asked about the impact of the shortfall, the spokesman said that though the pumping of water from Dhabeji pumping station had begun, various parts of the city would either face water shortage or would get the supply with a low pressure on Thursday and Friday. However, water supply position in almost all parts of the city would be normalized by 10am on Friday, he added.
The localities which would be affected include Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Nazimabad, Old City area, Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Saddar, he said, adding that all these localities would start getting normal supply by Friday noon.
SHORTAGE: Complaints of persisting water shortage have been received from Malir, Khokarapar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal's block 2 and Paposhnagar. Residents of the affected localities said that they had been getting scant supply with a low pressure for the last couple of days.
OVERFLOW: Filthy water gushing out from some choked sewerage lines has inundated a major street of F B Area's Block-2 (Hussainabad) near Memon Markaz. The stagnant sewage is not only creating an unhygienic condition in the locality but also causing inconvenience to residents and passers-by.
