LAHORE, Dec 15: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has ordered privatization of streetlights maintenance and inquiry into inordinate delay in purchase of new trucks and containers by the Solid Waste Management besides physical verification of 248 literacy centres claimed to be functioning in the city district.

Presiding over a meeting of the City District Government officials here on Wednesday, the Nazim expressed displeasure over inordinate delay in procurement of 40 trucks and 200 containers by the SWM and directed the DCO to look into the matter and submit his inquiry report within a week.

The Nazim directed the executive district officer (literacy) to furnish the details of 248 literacy centres existing on files to other EDOs. Every EDO should inspect at least four literacy centres and submit the report in the next meeting.

He was also furious over the unsatisfactory maintenance of the streetlights and ordered entrusting their maintenance to the private sector after inviting tenders. He also ordered removal of all kinds of publicity boards and signs from the electricity poles.
