KARACHI, Dec 14: The Pakistan Peoples Party on Tuesday requisitioned the Sindh Assembly session to discuss the creation of new districts, resignation of a private member representing Sindh in the NFC , demanding stoppage of Thal Canal project and kidnapping of judges from Shikarpur.

This was disclosed by the opposition leader in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, in a news conference in his assembly chambers. The requisition has been signed by 49 members.

"We have submitted requisition with the assembly secretariat for convening the session to discuss issues of NFC award, Greater Thal Canal, law and order, creation of new districts and non-implementation of announcement regarding lifting ban on recruitment in Sindh," said Mr Khuhro.

He said that the government's decision to create new districts would affect six MNAs. Questioning the rational given by the chief minister for this decision, Mr Khuhro said that a petition was already in the court and the government decision represented its contempt for the judiciary.

Mr Khuhro said that on the one hand five districts of Karachi were merged into one with such a huge population but on the other districts with much less population had been bifurcated to harm the PPP.

Accusing the government of not caring for the aspiration of the people of Sindh, Mr Khuhro said that Provincial Finance Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed had declared to continue struggle until Sindh assembly's unanimous resolutions calling for just distribution of resources. But, the resignation of A.K. Lodhi from the NFC committee exposed the sorry state of affairs.

Criticizing Sindh Chief Minister for his remarks on various issues, Mr Khuhro alleged that the chief minister was deceiving the people despite publication of pre-qualification tender notices of Rs2 billion for construction of Greater Thal Canal. Expressing concern over law and order situation and mounting unemployment, he referred to the kidnapping of judges from Shikarpur.
