PPP for fresh polls to avert crisis
ISLAMABAD, Dec 14: People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP) senior Vice-President Mir Baz Mohammad Khan Khethran has said the country will face anarchy if elections were not held next year.
Talking to Dawn on Tuesday, he said the law and order situation in the country was deteriorating every day and if the present set-up was allowed to continue for another year, the situation could go out of control.
Mr Khethran said the rulers were not capable of resolving the issues of the masses and, therefore, the people should be given an opportunity to elect their representatives in a free and fair elections as early as possible.
He demanded that the national and popular leadership should be allowed not only to return to the country but also to play their role in politics. He claimed that only PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto had the ability to take the country out of the "dark cloud."
In reply to a question, he said any decision regarding inclusion of the Patriots members would be taken only by Ms Bhutto. To another question regarding the situation in Balochistan, Mr Khethran said the government was establishing cantonments in the province where people did not have even the facility of drinking water.
He said the people of Balochistan had been deprived of all basic amenities like electricity and gas. He asked the government to set up schools and colleges in the province instead of the cantonments. The PPP leader warned that if the situation in Balochistan was mishandled, an Afghanistan-like situation could be emerged in the province.
