HYDERABD, Dec 14: The President of the Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Pakistan and central leader of the MMA, Prof Shah Faridul Haque, has said the government should not abandon UN resolutions while seeking an amicable solution of the Kashmir dispute.

He said it was quite wrong that the government was discussing options other than plebiscite. Talking to newsmen here on Monday night, he welcomed trade relations between India and Pakistan but cautioned that Kashmiris must be consulted in negotiations at all levels.

He said that Pakistan was passing through a critical phase because even the two-nation theory had been questioned by vested interests. He said that such an attitude was confusing people.

Calling for a joint struggle by all political parties for solution of people's problems, the JUP president said there seemed to be no formula through which the government intended to redress people's grievances. He said steps should be taken for running the country's affairs smoothly for which political parties must be consulted.
