Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Dec 13: A large number of workers of the Jamshoro thermal power station and Lakhra power station staged a demonstration on Monday outside the power houses in protest against the proposed privatisation of Wapda.

Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the All-Pakistan Powerhouses Union, Sajan Panhwar, Naveed Abbasi, Bashir Chandio and Asghar Lashari accused Wapda high-ups of pushing employees against the wall.

They demanded that employees should be paid hardship and generation allowance and house acquisition facility be restored. They demanded that move-over and selection grade cases should be taken up at the earliest and the employees be paid bonus.

They announced that the employees of thermal power stations throughout the country would stage protest demonstration outside press clubs on Dec 15. They also staged a sit-in on the Indus Highway as a result the vehicular traffic remained suspended for quite sometime.

Kotri TPO Anwar Durrani with a heavy contingent of police rushed to the spot to control the situation. However, no untoward incident was reported.
