PROBE: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has directed DCO Dr Mohammad Siddiq Memon to initiate an investigation into the sale of cotton to the Trading Corporation of Pakistan at Rs2,300 per bale by cotton ginners, who failed to procure it at the fixed price.
The directive followed a complaint by Haji Abdul Ghafoor Mahar, vice president of the Sindh Abadgar Board, Mirpurkhas, at a reception organized by Pakistan Muslim League leader Khadim Ali Shah in Khadim Ali Shah village on Sunday.
The chief minister asked the DCO to hand over the inquiry report directly to him. SAB officials had claimed that farmers had suffered huge losses because cotton was purchased from them at Rs700 per 40kg by ginners whom the TCP (Mirpurkhas zone) was giving reasonable price to maintain cotton rates.
