KARACHI: Accused in PS attack case identified

KARACHI, Dec 13: An eye-witness identified on Monday one of the two accused in the Orangi Town police station attack case before an anti-terrorism court.

Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 put off hearing till Tuesday after submission by Mohammed Shahid, who stated that he saw explosion taking place.

Accused Zeeshan who was carrying the explosive device received injuries in the blast outside the police station. Two alleged workers of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba, Zeeshan and Zafar Ikram, are charged with attempting to blow up the police station in a suicide attack.

According to prosecution, accused Zeeshan, a college student, was arrested red-handed after he received injuries in the blast caused by a home-made grenade he was carrying on June 13.

It was alleged that Zeeshan came to the police station with the intention of an attack on the PS, but the explosive device he was carrying went off, and he received injuries. Later, the police arrested co-accused Zafar Ikram on the lead of the injured accused. Abid Iqbal and Rahimullah have been shown absconders in the case.

PW Mohammed Shahid deposed that he was present at the nursery of his friend, Latif near the police station. He said he saw accused Zeeshan entering the police station, but he immediately came out as two policemen were chasing him. He said as he came out, a blast took place and the accused received injuries and was arrested by the police red-handed.

The prosecution witness was also cross-examined by defence counsel Manzoor Ahmed. The state is being represented by special public prosecutor Naimat Ali Randhawa.
