KARACHI: Experts call for early diagnosis of diabetes


KARACHI, Dec 11: Referring to the trend of denial among local parents that their children could be inflicted with diabetes , speakers at a seminar called for proper and timely diagnosis followed by proper medical intervention and meticulous management to protect children from severe complications of the disease.

Addressing the seminar, organized by Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre at the NICH auditorium on Saturday, senior medical experts including Prof Sultan Farooqui, Prof Masood Hameed, Prof Mashoor Alam, Prof Afroze Ramzan, Dr Jamal Raza and Dr Masroor Ahmed underscored the need for concerted efforts to create public awareness regarding the ailment assuming serious proportion in the country with every passing year.

Equal stress was laid on proper training of general physicians in particular and all health care providers in general so that they could have proper understanding of the symptoms of both types of diabetes.

The speakers reminded that Diabetes Type-II could be prevented through due care with special reference to contain the growing prevalence of sedentary life style and unhealthy eating habits. They said that prevention of Diabetes Type-I was not possible.

"The scenario makes it imperative for all parents to ensure proper medical examination of their children and if the latter is diagnosed with the disease ensure that the required medical intervention is arranged and is well managed," they said.

It was mentioned that proper care could ensure absolutely normal and quality life for the children inflicted with diabetes. With regard to disease among adult population, it was reminded that proper management would be equally crucial for them. -APP
