TOBA TEK SINGH: Rail passengers in agony

By Our Correspondent

TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 11: Hundreds of rail commuters and other people are facing problems following last week's re-routing of express trains.

Due to the construction of an underpass at Dharampura in Lahore, Karakoram Express, Jafar Express, Allama Iqbal Express, Shalimar Express and Karachi Express have been diverted to the Faisalabad-Toba route due to which 10 trains (five up and five down) pass from Toba Tek Singh but none halts here.

Since Dec 6, the other trains are kept halted at various stations to give way to the express trains.

This practice adds to the woes of the passengers of small trains.

On the other hand, the railway level crossing gates are closed for 10 times a day as a result of which traffic remains jammed for a long time.

People have urged the railway minister to approve at least one minute stoppage of every train passing through Toba Tek Singh.

Meanwhile, a reliable source disclosed that at least Rs400,000 loss was reported every month at local railway station as a result of change in the timing of Chenab Express.

The passengers have abandoned this train and are forced to travel by busses due to change in timing.
