KARACHI: SMC, DMC students warn of exam boycott

KARACHI, Dec 11: A number of MBBS second year students of the Dow Medical College and the Sindh Medical College on Saturday warned they would not appear in examinations if these were held by the DUHS.

The protesting students, in a joint demonstration and sit-in in front of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) registrar office, were against the transfer of their enrolments from the University of Karachi to the DUHS.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with their demands, the students demanded re-transfer of their enrolment from the Dow varsity to KU.

Later, talking to PPI, some protesting students said their enrolment was transferred from KU to the DUHS without taking them into confidence, though they were enrolled with KU and had even appeared in their first year MBBS examinations there.

They feared they would face many difficulties after obtaining their MBBS degrees from the DUHS, especially if going abroad for postgraduate studies, adding that the transfer of enrolments from the KU would hit over 600 students of both the DMC and SMC.

The aggrieved students said they tried to contact the DUHS vice-chancellor, but were unsuccessful, as he was unwilling to listen to them.

To a query, some students said that the issue of 3rd, 4th and final years' students, enrolled with the KU, had been resolved during a meeting of the VCs of both varsities, but students of 2nd year were left at the mercy of the DUHS authorities. - PPI
