RAWALPINDI, Dec 10: The district government has allowed the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) to hold a public meeting at Liaquat Bagh on December 19, sources said.
The MMA is holding a series of public meetings to protest against President Gen Musharraf's decision to hold two offices of the president and chief of the army staff.
The MMA's local chapter, in a press release on Friday after their meeting with the district police office, quoted him as saying: "The government has given a green signal to the administration in connection with the upcoming public meeting of the MMA."
MMA office-bearers said the meeting took place in a very cordial atmosphere. A senior district government official confirmed that the provincial government had allowed holding of the rally at Liaquat Bagh and the formal orders in this connection would be issued soon.
The Tehsil municipal administration has summoned the chief engineer and superintending engineer of Punjab highways and directed them to get the venue cleared before December 13.
It may be mentioned that Liaquat Bagh had been used as a dumping site during the construction of Committee Chowk underpass and at present it cannot be used for holding public meetings.
