KARACHI, Dec 10: First-ever cancer ward (indoor admission facility) in any public sector hospital in Sindh has started functioning at Civil Hospital Karachi and as many as nine patients suffering from various types of cancer , like cheek, nasophyrax, breast and lump, have been admitted till Friday.

It was the only indoor facility for cancer patients at public sector hospitals in Sindh, where they were being provided free chemotherapy. "It is a 12-bed facility located on second floor of gynaecological department building.

Some minor renovation work is under way with the cooperation of Pakistan Cancer Patients Welfare Society, but patients are being admitted in the ward," he added. "There is also a plan to construct a separate 30-bed cancer ward on the first floor of OPD diagnostic Block with the support of PCPWS and architect Ali Naqvi is working on the project. -PPI
