KARACHI, Dec 9: Three policemen were arrested on Thursday, for extorting money from six people in Gulberg. Police said three policemen picked up six people on December 5, for being Bengalis and levelled charges of illegal stay against them.

DSP Azizabad Aijaz Hashmi said that policemen including Allah Wadhaya, Saleemuddin, and Zameer, picked up Tariq Mehmood, Mohammed Ameer, Mohammed Dilawar, Muzaffar, Asad, and Haleem late night on December 5.

They were taken to the Gulberg police station where the policemen in question frisked them and took Rs16,000 from Tariq and Rs4,800 from Ameer. The policemen released them after receiving Rs7,000 more.

The people, living in Block-18, Federal B Area, approached the Gulberg town police officer, who constituted an inquiry. All three policemen were found guilty and an FIR (208) was registered against them for extorting money under sections 385/342/32 of the PPC, while they were also booked under sections 155(c) and 156(d) of the Police Order 2002.
