10 killed in accident

VEHARI, Dec 8: Ten passengers, including a woman, were killed and 18 others injured in a road accident on Wednesday on the Multan-Vehari road near the Baba Farid Filling Station, some eight kilometres from here.

The accident occurred when Multan-bound wagon coming from Vehari, collided head-on with an oil tanker, resulting in the death of ten people. Eighteen other passengers, including three children, suffered injuries.

The dead have been identified as Moman, Mazhar Hussain, Mohammad Ishaq, Yaqoob Maseeh, Amir (wagon driver), Zulfiqar Ali, Mohammad Aslam, Shamim, and Jan Maseeh. The tenth deceased could not be identified till the filing of this report.

Among the injured were Zafar alias Baga, Faiz Rasool, Faran Pervaiz, Mohammad Shakeel, Ashiq Husain, Mohammad Rizwan, Fida Husain, Abdul Aziz, Ansar, Sharifan Bibi, Kosar Perveen, Zafar Ali, Zeshan, Mohammad Farooq, Kashif and Mohammad Riaz. Two children could not be identified.

According to some eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the overloaded wagon tried to overtake another wagon. The condition of four injured was stated to be critical. Thingi police have arrested oil tanker driver Mohammad Riaz who was also injured.
