GUJRANWALA, Dec 8: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) will regularize the service of daily wagers working for the last five years.

This was stated by Gepco Chief Executive Brig Saifullah Khalid while speaking at a forum of the employees of cantonment and city circles here on Wednesday.

He said as many as 332 contract employees had been regularized while the cases of 436 were under process. He said about 727 employees, including 47 linemen, 20 line superintendents and 10 clerks, had been promoted besides provision of scholarship of Rs180,000 to 246 children of staffers, Rs46,000 to widows and Rs2 million marriage grant to them.

He said almost 400 complaint centres of the company were being revamped on a priority basis. Mr Saifullah said construction work on a 50-bed hospital would be completed within the stipulated period.

SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead over a litigation row in Pipliwala village on Wednesday. Reports said Ghulam Haider was on his way home when Muhammad Ibrahim and his accomplices opened fire killing him on the spot. Police have registered a case.
