LAHORE, Dec 8: The City District Government will allow the transporters to operate buses from its newly-developed bus stand on Bund Road on first come, first served basis
after failure to get positive response to its invitation of application for pre-qualification for the purpose.
The CDG plan to generate maximum revenue from the bus stand by arranging bidding among the pre-qualified transporters for operation of buses from each of its 20 bus bays has also been defeated as only 27 transporters have responded to its advertisements despite extension in the last date twice.
Whereas the owners of 10 private bus stands on Bund Road are charging 10 per cent of the value of the tickets sold for operation of buses, the CDG has decided to allow the transporters to operate buses from its bus stand against payment of three single fares for one-way journey to attract business.
It is charging a single fare for operation of air conditioned buses and Rs40 for non-air conditioned buses from the Badami Bagh General Bus Stand. Buses are expected to start operating from the new bus stand developed on 27 kanals of land at a cost of Rs20 million by the end of this month.
The bus stand is equipped with computerized security system, has spacious waiting halls with tuck shop facilities and arrangements for arrival and departure of 20 buses at a time departure of 600 buses daily.
