KARACHI: SSP activists indicted in police station attack case

KARACHI, Dec 8: An anti-terrorism court indicted on Wednesday two alleged workers of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba for attempting to blow up the Orangi police station in a suicidal attack.
Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 directed the special public prosecutor to produce evidence against accused Zeeshan and Zafar Ikram on Thursday. According to prosecution, accused Zeeshan, a college student, was arrested red-handed after being injured in an explosion caused by a home-made grednade outside the police station on June 13.
It was alleged that Zeeshan, carrying the grenade, was approaching the police station with intention of attack, when the grenade went off which resulted in injuries to him.
According to the police, as he entered the station, they attempted to frisk him on which he fled and the bomb went off and he suffered injuries. Later, the police arrested co-accused Zafar Ikram on the lead of the injured accused.
The police showed two activists of the banned organisation, Abid Iqbal and Rahimullah, as absconders. The judge declared them proclaimed offenders and he also ordered the confiscation of their moveable and immovable properties to the state.
MASJID RAZA BLAST: Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the ATC-5 put off the hearing of the Masjid Ali Raza bomb blast case against a worker of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi after the defence counsel concluded cross-examination of an eye-witness.
The judge directed the special public prosecutor, Mazhar Qayyum, to produce further prosecution witnesses on Dec 13 after recording the cross-examination of PW Syed Iqbal Hussain, a sub-inspector in the investigation wing of Gulberg police.
As many as 25 faithful had been killed and 37 others injured on May 31 this year when a suicide bomber blew himself inside Masjid Raza at Numaish. Accused Gul Hasan, arrested on June 13, is stated to have been the mastermind of bomb blasts at Haideri Mosque and Imambargah Ali Raza. He is alleged to have planned attacks with absconding accused that included Asif Chuto and Mufti Obaid.
