KARACHI: CHK to upgrade emergency unit

KARACHI, Dec 6: The PC-I for up gradation and revamping of emergency department of Civil Hospital Karachi has been submitted with Sindh Health Department for approval, it has been learnt on Monday.

Revamping and up gradation of emergency unit would be carried out at the cost of Rs43 million and updating the facilities in laundry would cost Rs5 million. Sources said that plan to expand and upgrade the emergency department has been outlined in view of growing burden on the existing facilities, which are insufficient to cater the needs in a metropolitan city like Karachi.

Owing to rapid increase in population, which presently stands over 14 million and sudden surge in terrorist activities and traffic accidents, it has become imperative to take measures for addition of latest equipment and expansion of facility to deal with the emergency situation.

Besides, modern equipment of ENT Department of the Civil Hospital has also been mentioned in the PC-I at the cost of Rs23 million. Giving details about the plan to update laundry of CHK, sources mentioned that around 3,000 items are washed daily, which requires enhanced capacity.

"The existing laundry is in bad shape as there are only two machines of two different sizes. "There is a pressing need to update the facility to cater the growing needs," sources said. -PPI
