KARACHI, Dec 6: A few of over 500 public concerned resolutions, adopted by City Council Karachi since the inception of new devolution plan, have been implemented by the authorities to solve civic problems.

Sources in city government told PPI that the City Council was still awaiting the response from the departments concerned in implementing the resolutions, adopted by it. Majority of such resolutions pertained to the problems of the masses. However, these resolutions have been lying in cold storage due to apathy and indifferent attitude of the officials concerned.

"The red-tapism and bureaucracy, which never accepted the new system right from the beginning, are the main causes of obstructing the city council to function as envisaged in new system," sources added.

Much talked system, sources mentioned, to bring improvement in the life of common man by resolving the civic problems has yet to deliver in the real sense. Despite the fact that members of these institutions are directly elected by the people, they have no say in civic affairs of the city, as the recommendations and suggestions put forward by them have never been honoured by the competent authorities.

Furthermore, explanations sought by the largest city council of the country from heads of city government departments had never borne any fruit. -PPI
