PESHAWAR, Dec 4: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that terrorism has engulfed the entire world, posing a grave threat to humanity and added that right from the United States to Far East terrorism had made lives of people unsafe and insecure.

Presiding over the 26th Annual General Meeting of the NWFP chapter of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society at a local hotel on Saturday, the governor said Pakistan was steadfast in the fight against terrorism and working to eliminate the elements that were bent on destabilizing the country through their activities.

He said the Pakistan Red Crescent Society had been rendering a valuable service, yet it had to be more dynamic, focused and innovative in its approach to tackle the problems confronting the people.

He exhorted the youth to join constructive activities.

"Take stock of your social responsibilities, set your priorities and interact with the (Red Crescent) Society so that you become a useful and an active partner," Mr Shah them.

Appreciating the role of foreign NGOs, he said there was a need to establish more and more institutions in the province, particularly in areas prone to natural calamities.

The governor said that 90 per cent of FATA's population lived in far-off villages and added that most of those poor people were unable to provide health and education facilities to their children.

Though, he said, a massive development programme had been launched to provide basic facilities to the people of Fata under a new system of governance, yet there was dire need to make more efforts towards this goal. He asked the Red Crescent to extend its network to Fata and assured the Society of his support in this regard.
