KARACHI: Shahrah-i-Orangi to be completed in 24 months

KARACHI, Dec 4: The adviser to chief minister, Mumtaz Hameed, on Saturday said that the provincial government wanted to provide all necessary facilities, including fresh water , wide roads, electric supply and others, to the residents of Orangi Town on priority basis.

Speaking to a public gathering after his visit for inspecting construction work of Shahrah-i-Orangi, he said that this road would be completed in a very short time with the cooperation of area people.

The adviser said that removal of illegal construction by the residence of Orangi Town by themselves proved that they wanted development work in their areas.

Earlier in his briefing to the adviser, the project director said that the total length of Shahrah-i-Orangi from Banaras Chowk to Bangash Police Post was about 6.4kms. The project would be completed in 24 months with the total cost of Rs173 million, he added.

The adviser was told that after the removal of illegal constructions with the cooperation of area people, 80-feet-wide space would be available for construction of the road.

The project director further said that 12-inch-dia sewerage pipeline was being laid in both sides of the road for drainage of rain water. Between both sides of the road a four feet wide Island would be constructed, he added.

It was stated that water leakage under the road was found at 24 spots which was being repaired. It was pointed out that 111 electric poles on both sides of the road would be shifted and the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation had been informed about it. The work for shifting the poles would be started within a week.

Mumtaz Hameed directed the KWSB engineer to arrange all necessary measures for repair of leakage under the road so that the construction work could be continued without any difficulty. He warned that the KWSB would be responsible if any leakage was found in the pipeline under the road.

Orangi Town Nazim also spoke on this occasion. -PPI
