KARACHI: Disabled job quota to be increased to 3pc: minister

KARACHI, Dec 4: The Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani, has said the government has sent a proposal for enhancement for job quote for special people from the existing two to three per cent as a measure to provide the latter with all possible facilities.

He stated this while speaking as the chief guest at a function held in connection with the 'International Day for Special People' by the Organization for Welfare of Special People.

The minister said that instead of ignoring special people, incentives would be provided to help them progress forward, and work shoulder to shoulder with other people for national development.

He said it was not correct to expect the government to do everything, which had limited resources, calling upon NGOs to play an active role in this regard. He paid compliments to NGOs who, he observed, were in the forefront in rehabilitating special people.

He said the government was chalking out a plan to set up more institutions to train special people. He assured of strict implementation of job allocation quota for special people and said they should be provided representation at the provincial council for handicaps at the government level.

The minister also announced a grant of Rs25,000 for the Organization for Welfare of Special People.- APP
