KARACHI: KU accused of not accepting madressah degrees

KARACHI, Dec 3: The admission committee of the University of Karachi is allegedly refusing candidates with degrees of Rabita-tul-Madaris admissions to Master's programmes of Usool-uddin and Quran-o-Sunnah , despite appearance of their names in merit lists.

The Rabita-tul-Madaris is one of four religious education boards recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Students having its degrees were given admissions to both the above-mentioned Master's programmes in 2002 and 2003.

Some candidates, having Rabita-tul-Madaris degrees, and whose names appeared in the final merit list issued by the KU admission committee, alleged that the KU admission committee was denying them admissions to both departments by refusing them to give forms for completion of admission facilities.

"We were told that degrees of Rabita-tul-Madaris were not recognized by the KU Academic Council and asked to submit claim forms as the KU admission committee needed some time to ascertain whether such candidates should be given admissions or not," they informed.

They deplored that only a few candidates were given claim forms and the rest were refused and told that claim forms were only meant for candidates whose names didn't appear in the merit list due various reasons. - PPI
