Germany surprise The Netherlands

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 2: The new-look Germany stunned The Netherlands 1-0 in a warm-up match at National Hockey Stadium on Thursday. The Netherlands, defending champions of the Dec 4-12 Champions Trophy, got two penalty-corners.

The tournament is scheduled to start at the National Hockey Stadium from Saturday. The match winner was scored by Florin Keller in the 9th minute through a field attempt.

Later German coach Bernhard Peters, said that he was surprised over the team's victory. "It will raise the morale of my team before competing in the main event," the German coach said.

Peters said that he was not expecting the win before the start of the match. "I think the Dutchmen were tired as they reached one day before and had held a practice session, besides playing this match," he said. Pakistan coach Roelant Oltmans, manager Samiullah and captain Wasim Ahmed with some other players also saw the match to assess the strength of both teams.
