SCBA chief disowns letter

By Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Dec 2: The president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Qazi Muhammad Jamil, said on Thursday that the executive committee of the association had not taken any decision regarding a 'Lawyers Complex' in Islamabad and no individual was authorised to use the name of the association.

Mr Jamil told newsmen here that a letter sent to the PM secretariat had not been sent by the association and it was the personal act of three office-bearers, including finance secretary Arshid Choudhry.

He said that no decision was taken by the SCBA in its meeting held on Monday. He added that the finance secretary was not the association's spokesman. Mr Jamil said that the demand put forward in the letter for the provision of 1000 kanals of land for the complex was the personal desire of the three office-bearers and had nothing to do with the association.

He added that he respected the services rendered by the former cabinet members of the association. He said that the first meeting of the new cabinet was a sort of introductory meeting in which no major decisions were made.

Only the executive committee was only empowered to make such major decisions, he added. About cooperation with the government, he said, it was the clear stand of the association that supremacy of the constitution should prevail.
