CAIRO, Dec 1: Fathi Arafat, brother of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, died of cancer in the Egyptian capital on Wednesday at the age of 67, a Palestinian diplomat here said.

A doctor by profession, he was honorary president of the Palestinian Red Cresent Society, of which he was a co-founder in 1968. He had been fighting for his life for some time.

His death came less than a month after his brother died in a French military hospital outside Paris on November 11. A 1957 graduate of the University of Cairo, Arafat worked for many years in Egypt, Kuwait and Jordan. -AFP
