Clarification

LAHORE, Nov 30: Apropos of two news items appearing in the Dawn issues of Nov 13 and Nov 22 regarding a decision of the Lahore High Court, Bahawalpur bench , it is clarified that the court neither suspended amendments to the Legal Practitioners Act nor did it order Punjab Bar Council elections, as was inadvertently reported.

The court's order said: "The Court has been informed that the Returning Officer (respondent No.2) is unavailable today. In the circumstances, for the reasons noted in the admitting order dated 11.11.2004 operation of the notification No. 15420-Pb.B.C/Election dated 6.11.2004 is suspended.

The elections to the Punjab Bar Council may be held in accordance with the election schedule earlier announced on 29.9.2004." The error in the said reports is regretted-Ed.
