KARACHI: Absenting teachers, students to be penalized
KARACHI, Nov 30: In order to check the trend of getting tuition from their own college teachers at tuition centres, and to ensure the holding of classes in colleges
, various steps were decided at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan.
The meeting was attended by the Executive District Officer (EDO) Higher Education, Prof Rais Alvi, nazim's representative Nasim Siddiqui and DO Colleges Prof Afsar Khan. There was a consensus in the meeting that teachers were losing interest in teaching at their colleges and students had been forced to depend on tuition centres.
The meeting also expressed concern over the growing trend of not holding classes in colleges. It was, therefore, decided that the education department of the city government will prepare a list of all tuition centres pinpointing those where students were taking classes from their own college teachers.
It was decided that such students would not be allowed to appear in the exams. Similarly, action would also be taken against teachers who teach students of their colleges at the tuition centres.
In order to ensure holding of classes in colleges, it was decided to organise assemblies prior to the start of classes in which participation by teachers and students would be made essential.
Mr Naimat directed the EDO Colleges to form various teams who would inspect such assemblies in colleges, in the morning and evening shifts, and particularly visit colleges at any time to check attendance. The students and teachers found absent would be transferred to morning shifts.
It was also agreed to in the meeting that a transparent admission system for colleges had been established as a result of the centralized policy, and that all admission related complaints had been removed.
It was decided to continue with the centralized admission policy in the future which was approved by the city nazim. He directed that CAP's working for the next academic year be started earlier. The meeting decided to take priority measures to overcome the shortage of teachers and furniture in colleges. - APP
