Yuichi moves into last eight

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28:Top seed Ikeda Yuichi of Japan moved into the quarterfinals of the Pakistan Asian Satellite International Badminton Tournament on Sunday at the Liaquat Gymnasium.

Yuichi had to work hard in overcoming the challenge of his Indonesian rival Adnan Fauzi 17-14, 15-14. Pakistan's Wajid Ali knocked out Paneru Pashupati of Nepal 15-13, 15-4 while Indonesia's Jeffer Rosobin outplayed India's JBS Vidyadhar 15-6, 15-10.

Stenny Kasuma of Indonesia also checked into the quarters defeating Sachin Ratti 15-6, 15-10. At the time of filing of this report, four pre quarterfinals were in progress, one of them featuring Pakistan's Ehsan Qamar, who was playing Abhium Shayam Gupta.

In the mixed doubles quarterfinals three Pakistani teams advanced with first Atif Nadeem and Sara Khan edging Nepal's Thapa Balram and Shrestha Pooja 15-13, 9-15, 15-11 and then Mohib Imran and Uzma Butt squeezed a 15-2, 10-15, 15-3 win against compatriots Rizwan Rana and Zahida Ali.

The home pair of Waqas Ahmed and Saima Manzoor beat Paneru Pashupati and Shresta Sumina of Nepal 15-6, 8-15, 15-12. In the men's doubles pre-quarterfinals, Pakistan's Tahir Ishaq and Ahmad M, Waqas scored a hard-fought win over India's Sachin Ratti and Mishra Ustav 16-17, 15-1, 15-11 while Asad Aleem and Muhammad Tariqthrashed Pahlaran Yara-Daren Nema 15-5, 15-10.

However, Hussain S. Shabbar and Atif went down 5-15, 9-15 to Eskandare Jalal and Baghere Gholam Reza of Iran and the Mohib Imran-Amir Islam combination lost to Indians Bristow Markose-Xavier Jaison 15-6, 15-4. Another Indian duo of Xeveer Jaison and Biswas Adit scored a 15-7, 15-3 victory over Nepal's Mehata Indra and Tamang Sara Devi.
