KARACHI: Ibad orders expediting work on housing plans


KARACHI, Nov 28: The Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, has emphasised the need for expediting the pace of work on housing projects, particularly low-cost housing schemes throughout the province.

He observed this in a briefing given to him in this regard at the Governor House the other day. Progress achieved in respect of the ongoing Malir Housing Scheme was reviewed in detail in the meeting. Ibad said that certain schemes pending for years had been activated with continuous efforts in order to provide relief to people in the housing sector.

The meeting was attended by Adviser on Local Government Waseem Akhtar, Chief Secretary Mohammed Aslam Sanjrani, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, Principal Secretary Brig (Retd) Akhtar Zamin, DCO Fazlur Rehman and concerned provincial secretaries.

Appreciating the progress achieved by the Malir Development Authority, Ibad issued directives to the water, electricity and gas utilities for coordinated cooperation with the authority. He also called for completing the demarcation of villages expeditiously.

The meeting was informed that survey of villages was completed and demarcation would also be completed soon as per the governor's directives. It was stated that a special cell had been set up in the project area for removal of encroachments and it was being provided necessary machinery.

Project Director Amirzada Kohati informed that work in 11 sectors was complete, with respect to individual demarcations, and it was in progress in five others. The governor stressed on maintaining wide entry and exit routes in the scheme, arrangements for a landfill site for garbage disposal, and developing a park in a sector near the National Highway.

Reviewing the implementation of governor's directives issued in the last meeting, it was informed that plantation was being done along roads. The governor had directed that a plantation contract must be included in the road construction.

He stressed on auctioning all commercial sites while completing codal formalities and determination of prices through the steering committee. The meeting also took stock of the progress achieved in respect of the Taisar Town. The governor said hawkers' zones should be allocated in all schemes, and that roads be kept wide with green central islands. - APP
