Asghar assured of bronze medal


KARACHI, Nov 27: Pakistan's Asghar Ali Shah assured himself of bronze medal in the first World Universities boxing championship by reaching the semifinals, out-pointing Malina Marker from Russia 17:15 after a close fight on Saturday at Lamara Hotel Convention Hall, Anatlia Turkey.

According to the details provided by Pakistan Boxing Federation, experienced Asghar as expected made his way into the last four of the championship in 64kg category.

It proved to be a tough fight for Asghar as his rival put up a tremendous show till the bell to finally go down losing 15-17.

Asghar will face Guala Hun of Hungary in semifinals on Sunday who defeated Postal Victor from Ukraine 17:12. The final of the competition will be held on Monday.

Pakistan entered with its two pugilists in the championship. Besides Asghar, Qarar his nephew also participated in the championship but failed to make his mark as he lost in the first round.-PPI
