Order on Asif's plea for acquittal reserved

KARACHI, Nov 27: District and Sessions Judge (East) Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani on Saturday reserved order on an acquittal application filed by Asif Ali Zardari in Mir Murtaza Bhutto murder case.

Vehemently opposing the defence application, Special Public Prosecutors Ilyas Khan and Mushtaq Ahmed told the court that the prosecution had very strong evidence that Asif Ali Zardari hatched a conspiracy to kill Murtaza Bhutto and others.

They argued that the prosecution had to produce further evidence to prove its case against the accused.

They submitted that there were witnesses to prove that before killing of Murtaza Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, the then sindh Chief Minister, Abdullah Shah, and the then SSP (South), Wajid Durrani, hatched a conspiracy in the CM house for killing Murtaza Bhutto and his associates in police a shootout.

Besides, prosecution has to examine journalists to whom Murtaza Bhutto reportedly told that Asif Zardari and Abdullah Shah wanted him to kill through police.

They further contended that at this stage of the trial, the application could not be decided as investigation officers of the case have not been examined before the court.

According to prosecutors, they wanted to examine Inspector Mohammad Saleem, police constable Mehar Bux, head constable Ali Mohammad, inspector Raja Adalat, DSP Maqbool Hussain Shah, staff of IB and journalists. The court, after hearing the concluding arguments of prosecution side, reserved the order for Jan 3.-PPI
