All set for MMA rally

KARACHI, Nov 27: All arrangements for the MMA's public meeting, to be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, at Nishtar Park were finalized on Saturday night. This would be the first of a series of four public meetings organized by the MMA in major cities of the country as part of its fresh campaign against General Musharraf.

The campaign has been prompted by General Musharraf's reneging on a deal with the MMA under which he had agreed to quit as COAS by Dec 31 this year if he retained the office of the president. However, the MMA has been opposing the government's policies on various national and international issues. During the campaign, the MMA will mobilize public opinion against the government's policies as well as US intervention in the affairs of Pakistan and other countries, especially Islamic countries. It intends to press the government to uphold supremacy of the Constitution and to pursue the policies that could solve the problems being faced by common man.

The Sunday rally will be addressed by MMA leaders Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Prof Shah Faridul Haq, Prof Sajid Mir, Allama Sajid Naqvi, Qari Gul Rehman and several others opposition leaders.

Except Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who would arrive at the venue of the rally soon after his arrival from Libya on Sunday morning, all other central leaders of the alliance have confirmed their arrival in the city on Saturday night.

The MMA has made elaborate arrangements for the rally. Security in and around Nishtar Park would be ensured by MMA volunteers who have already been briefed about their responsibilities.
