GUJRANWALA, Nov 27: A fireworks factory collapsed in an explosion here on Friday night at Rakh Kikeranwali village on the Ferozewala Road.

The explosion damaged the adjacent buildings as well. However, no human loss took place as the factory owner and other workers were asleep at their houses.

Reports said Ijaz Ahmad had set up a fireworks manufacturing factory in Arif Town locality and stored a large quantity of explosives. The explosion reportedly took place due to the heat of chemicals.

Police have arrested the factory owner and registered a case against him.

Meanwhile, people have demanded of the district administration to get such units shifted from residential areas and take stern action against the factory owner.

SHOT DEAD: A rice mills manager was shot dead on Saturday by unidentified assailants in Ghakkhar Town.

Muhammad Shafi was present in the mills when assailants came there and opened fire on him. He died on the spot.

The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained. Police shifted his body to Wazirabad THQ Hospital for autopsy.
