SWABI, Nov 27: Women councillors have said that their future participation in local bodies' election is linked with the provision of honorarium.

They said this while talking to journalists on Saturday after a session of the Swabi district council.

They said if the government did not give women councillors honorarium it would difficult for female to come forward in future.

They demanded equal treatment by the government in the distribution of funds as they had also been elected by the people.

Without financial support they said how councillors could work for the cause of women and when their own financial position remained weak how they could work for the cause of women.

The strengthening of their financial position would not only give a boost to their own position but women in general would take more interest in local bodies' elections in future.

Keeping in mind the Pukhtun culture and restrictions on women, they said, they had already played an important role in the awakening of women and much more was expected to be done if they had financial support.

District Nazim Jehan Zeb Khan assured them all possible help, saying the government had been working on this issue and the women councillors would soon get honorarium.
